Flor de Pingus 2018

Flor de Pingus 2018 red wine, from Dominio de Pingus

Fresh black fruit-scented nose combined with nicely mineral, spice and balsamic notes. Harmonious and sumptuous palate, smooth textured, good volumen and depth, with a good fruit character and refined tannins. A two-hour decant is recommended. It will continue to develop over the next 3–4 years, and will drink nicely for a long time.

Made from a rigorous selection of 100% Old Tinto Fino Vines (also called Tinta del Pais, a local variant of Rioja’s Tempranillo) ranging from 25 to 50 years and producing low yields, sourced from a 20 ha. of vines located in the municipal district of La Horra. Each Finca vinified separately in small stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Fermentation and ageing in new (40%) and second year French oak barriques during approximately 18 months.

Dominio de Pingus is a well-known and reputable winery, not only in Ribera del Duero but worldwide as well, having achieved great international success and with its flagship wine Pingus being often cited as Ribera del Duero and Spain’s best red, whenever excellent wines are discussed. Peter Sisseck, the well-known and acclaimed Danish winemaker, who is also a winemaker for Hacienda Monasterio and PSI, has made this relatively small state the top address in the area. The winery was founded in 1995 and is located 30 km from Roa in the province of Burgos. It is an artisan winery with a very small production which allows that extra carefulness in the final quality of its products. Since 2001, biodynamic viticulture is being employed to achieve a healthier balance in the vineyards.
